My friend Seth just got engaged. Officially best blog post ever! 🙂
Oh, and I may have some very exciting news which will be posted about very soon…
Long time since last post etc.
I don’t think I’m even going to try to catch you up on the events in the time since my last post. There have been a few things distracting me from writing to you all, but it does seem to have dwindled in priority a little. Never fear though, it crosses my mind frequently.
One reason I haven’t been posting is that I have been working on a website for Lifenet which is slowly getting there and now has it’s first iteration on the internet at a mysterious currently not to be revealed location. It really isn’t finished, but more is done than what you see if you happen to find it.
This weekend was really quite productive with me and Cameron working on the website from 9-3 on Saturday and 2-5:30 today. We did have a break for lunch yesterday which was delicious super sandwiches prepared by a certain delicious Amy. Then yesterday afternoon Amy and Me went and saw Seussical, starring Hannah Hamilton and first or last nameless Kinloch. Twas fantastic and very well done. Lots of colour and music and other wonderful musicalish things. Then a brief interlude at BK with Mark followed by a trip to see a couple of teams play a very close game of rugby. Thanks Mark for the free ticket. One of the teams was wearing red and black and the other team blue and white. 🙂 One feature of all the rugby games I had been to at Jade stadium was conspicuous by it’s absence though… Namely the giant inflatable shield in the corner… If only this weeks North Harbour game was in North Harbour…
“Waikato brought North Harbour back to earth with a thump today, comfortably beating the new Ranfurly Shield holders in an Air New Zealand Cup top six rugby match in Hamilton.”
So yeah, anyway, if anyone is still reading this… I do plan to be a little more committed to posting now that I won’t feel like I should be working on the website whenever I turn on my computer.
Well, here is another post, – once again, it appears to have been a while. Originally I was hoping to post some photos of our time up in the North Island, but Amy has them all. So, no photos from then for you. We did have a great time up there, visiting and meeting lots of people. – My family, Amy’s grandparent’s and cousins, other family friends and her best friend Hillary, and a few of my friends, including Edward, Hazel, and Ritchie. And that wasn’t all. I discovered that Auckland is a cold wet place with very limited visibility. Still had a great time though. Got to go to De Fontein – Belgian beer cafe at Mission bay and numerous other fun places.
Then, the following weekend we went to the university Christian Groups ball out at Lincoln and Yan’s birthday/Completing Masters party. Both of which were lots of fun. The ball had a jazz theme with a live jazz/swing orchestra, yummy food, great people and dancing and more. I do have a couple of photos from that that I can post. I’ll do that and leave this post at that. I’ve also added a photo to my lazy post from July 12.
Well, it’s been a while, but I’m finally getting around to doing another update. One of those things that you avoid because it has gotten so massive. Since I’ve only done one real post in the last month and the month has been full of awesomeness, I’m going to miss lots out and touch on just a few things. Also, this will not end up chronological.
Firstly, as the title suggests, Saturday a week ago (15th) I got breakfast in bed. Amy came over and cooked me a fantastic omelette and kumara hash browns. When I tried to get up, I was shooed back to bed to wait, so I lay in bed with my laptop – it’s a hard life. I thought to myself “This is a great time to update your blog” so I attempted to do so. Unfortunately my site was unavailable. I received the following explanation later in the day:
This evening (July 14th) from about 5:25pm-6:55pm many of our servers were offline causing significant downtime for many of our users. The outage was due to a severe power outage in the north end of Orem, Utah where our servers are located. We do have UPS backup as well as diesel generators, but at about 5:30 they finally gave out. The power outage was for much longer than that period of time, but the reserve power was eventually consumed in its entirety. When it rains it pours.
So instead I watched the newest episode of pure pwnage, checked my emails, listened to some music and the conversations in the kitchen and just generally enjoyed not having to get up. 🙂 After we’d eaten, we went and watched Amy’s friend Hannah perform in “No Moa” at the court theatre which was lots of fun.
Also, I finally got rid of my Surf, for quite a lot less than I paid for it, but in the end I was just glad to see it gone. I listed it on trademe, sold it, the buyer didn’t show, did a fixed price offer, sold it, buyer didn’t show, relisted, then withdrew and sold it to someone who was willing to pick it up on Friday of last week. Popped home from work when he wanted to pick it up. Jump started it no problems, but then could not actually get it to move. Appeared to be stuck in Park – no movement when we put it in drive or reverse, and we couldn’t push it in neutral. Somewhat frustrating. Anyway, spent the weekend at Navs camp (next) and returned to find that he had managed to remove it over the weekend which was quite uplifting actually.
Spent the last weekend with the Navs student group in Kaiapoi. Lots of good social times, seminars, speakers and food. Went to seminars on time/self management and looking at a way of analysing movies in the light of our faith. Watched clips from Shrek2, The Incredibles, Crash and The Insiders Guide to Happiness. The main talks were about living our lives in a way that matches up with what we believe and sharing that journey with people. I think the reason I often don’t talk about what I believe is the same reason I don’t talk about my work very often. – Basically because it’s hard to explain and on the surface uninteresting to people who aren’t a part of it. Part of the talks were about talking about our faith and our lives in a way that does make sense and is understandable, because our faith and the good news we have is too important a part of our lives not to talk about.
Have got into a routine of going swimming on Monday evenings at Jellie Park at 7, with at least a few of Mark, Andy, Nick, Hobbs, Amy and Me being there every Monday.
There’s so much good stuff to write about. I’ve spent lots of time with Amy – most of the time we both have spare in fact. And, not scared to say it, I’m very much in Love. 🙂 I’ve received some awesome cards and presents and lots of massages, hugs and kisses – ok, maybe there’s a good reason why I haven’t been updating my blog. That’s right… I’ve been sparing you the details. 😉 We watched our way through the Firefly series at some point, followed by Serenity (movie). I won’t redescribe the day at Wainui etc. as there is an adequate description easily obtainable… In fact i’ve linked it already.
What else have I been up to – sleepy now, really short version… Went to see Superman, Pirates 2 and Cars (no links today, sorry). Went to Andrea’s 21st – 80’s theme, Amy and Me as the Blues Brothers, a little incestuous really, Rachael Whyte’s 21st – 80’s theme, Went dressed as Billy Joel in Uptown Girl music video (overalls) with Amy as my Uptown Girl. Went to Jeremy and Michelle’s Engagement party, and Matt and Aprils engagement party. – So many parties, so much good food, so bad for me, but yet it all tastes so good. Saw Mark off from work with lunch at the Fox and Ferret, won’t be the same without him. Also, there has been snow, soccer games – wins and losses and undoubtably stuff I shouldn’t be forgetting. I very much enjoyed that stuff at the time but my sleepiness and time have dulled the memories
This weekend Mike Shamy – who was the main speaker at the Student Navs camp will be speaking to the 2 older groups that have been working through the studies we’ve been doing so I’m busy again, and next weekend (From Thursday till Sunday) Amy and me are going up to Hamilton and Auckland to visit my family and various of our other friends and relatives. A bit of a flying visit which I am very much looking forward too!
This week has been pretty fantastic so far. I am also aware that today marks more than a month since I last posted. I have been considering it. It will happen.
Thought I’d add a photo to improve this slightly…
Well, I thought I was being really slack about updating my blog and maybe I have been a little, but my last (real) post was only just over a week ago.
Last weekend after Friday night, I played soccer, where we were thrashed 9-0. We did feel like we had one something after the 2nd half though as it was already 8-0 at halftime. After BK lunch at the Pink Palace, we had a lazy afternoon with a DVD (Bride and Prejudice) and then we went ice skating with Andrea and Dave, after going to Nando’s for tea. Somehow that sentence is really long. Twas cool to meet them and I think I’m getting better at ice skating too.
I think I’m going into too much detail… Sunday we went out for breakfast at Le Cafe which was delicious and then ended up being late to church because we somehow managed to go through 4 intersections that the Marathon runners were going past. So much for dodging it… Lunch at Rich and Lindsey’s after church, and a bit of reading and then we watched Chocolat, followed by one of Mike’s fantastic Roast Dinners, with the meat of the day being a huge shoulder of pork.
Monday we went mountain-biking which was fun, albeit freezing, but a spa at QEii sorted that out. 🙂
Anyway, I’ve definitely missed things from the weekend, but the last week has just been so good that it’s all blending into one big glob of goodness.:)
On Tuesday I started my new job as a software engineer, and I have already learned quite a lot I think, having been thrown in the deep end with a few curly issues. Definitely interesting.
My week has included a lot more Amy, 🙂 so I can’t really write that it’s been pretty standard other than the above like I usually do, because it hasn’t, but I’m not going to bore you with the details, although they are not at all boring to me…
Then on Friday night, Amy took me out to the Pier 6 restaurant in Lyttleton for an amazing dinner. I had seafood chowder and it was delicious!
Last night, for the first time, a monumental occasion, I actually won a fast food combo bet with Mess… My bet, that Ireland would be ahead at half-time, and indeed they were. So I was cheering on Ireland for the first half, which I think directly contributed to their performance. Because at half-time I switched to cheering for the All-Blacks, which saw them emerge victorious in the end.
Well, in closing, this post has ended up rather long. Once again a list of events. I think I may become even more selective. So many things make for poor descriptions. A wee hint… You may find more about what I have been up to here. Just maybe. 🙂
For all you n00bs out there, Olds are the opposite to News… 🙂
