Sunny Weekend

Well, after a bit of a drizzly week, The weekend (and Friday) pulled through with some actual sun, which was excellent. I got a whole bunch of washing done on Friday and organised a bbq with work people for Saturday. The bbq was a lot of fun. The sun came out just in time and it was great just to hang out, drink a few beers and eat some meat. Things got a little messier later on with a bit of a waterfight and some possibly unwise sculling. Also, despite Mark’s claims that “December sun doesn’t burn”, apparently it does, with most people coming away at least slightly burnt, despite liberal application of sunscreen. Gordon was there taking photos, for part of the time, which I will post a selection of when I get home. (Done)

I went into town with Anna and Mark afterwards and met up with a bunch of their friends. Twas a great night, meeting some new people, re-meeting others, some dancing, and more. I even managed to catch up with Emily, Mike, Erin and Adam at Sammy’s later in the evening.

Sunday morning we watched The Blues Brothers, which I hadn’t seen for ages and is still fantastic. In the afternoon I went to a Pre-Christmas Christmas at my friend Robert’s house. I hadn’t seen him for ages until he randomly pulled up next to me in his car after King Kong on Wednesday. I had a great time, hanging out, yummy food, and even learned how to play Taboo, which was a lot of fun.

I have a problem…

I think I like movies too much. Either that or some awesome movies are coming out this year. And now there is another one to add to the list. King Kong! It is amazing. I will not be providing any spoilers, but you should go see it at the first available opportunity. I was on the edge of my seat for a good part of the movie.

I’ve seen some comments around saying that it is better than Lord of the Rings. I think it is different and in some aspects it was better in my opinion. This could be because I have read Lord of the Rings about a million times so there were really no surprises. King Kong had a lot more suspense for me and also a lot more action and even emotion I think. But, Lord of the Rings being one of my favourite books, I’m not going to make a call. They are both/all amazing movies. Go Peter Jackson!

Slack

I’m getting so slack at this blog updating thing.

I did go to the midnight showing of TCON-TL,TW&TW – I refuse to type that whole name again. The group of us that went was, Matthew, Mark, Luuk and David (Now also known as John). Despite the length of the title, the movie was fantastic and well worth going to see, especially if you like the book.

Friday night I went to Adam’s pirate birthday party, which was a very fun evening. I met some new people, tried some delicious drinks and just generally enjoyed the relaxing and hanging out.

Saturday morning I had coffee with my stalker Lannah who I met at the party. – This sounds a lot weirder than it actually is. 🙂 We went to starbucks, and after ordering my Grande Caffe Americano, I was asked if I would like a 4th shot of coffee. Now, having just recently started drinking coffee again, of course I said yes, although I have to say I was a little worried by the implications. Twas a fantastic coffee though.

Saturday afternoon I was introduced to Lord of the Rings Risk, which I proceeded to lose. I made up for this on Sunday though when Emily and Me as the powers of good, defeated Matt and Paul as the forces of Evil against overwhelming odds, with the ring arriving safely at Mt. Doom. I also somehow managed to fit the groceries and a 2km swim in somewhere.

Well, another movie tonight, organised by our wonderful social club. I managed to resist going to the midnight showing of this one last night, so I could actually be awake this morning. A 3 hour movie at midnight is not often a good idea. Tonight it starts at the much more reasonable time of 7:45. The movie is of course King Kong and it is going to be fantastic.

Wow, it’s December

Since last update:

Saturday 3rd: Work Christmas party at the Crowne Plaza hotel. Great food (ate too much) and band and atmosphere. Awesome time. Followed by some time standing in queues in town (and a bit of talking in between). Also swam 2.5km beforehand.

Spent a lot of time on a number of days mucking around with my website. You may notice my new Library page which is kind of designed to be a useful way to lend DVDs/books/CDs/Games to people I know. Feel free to sign up (probably helps to be in Christchurch) and feel free to add your own stuff you don’t mind lending. Also added a bit of undocumented functionality to that to do other things that I want it to, which involved a few hours of late night and during the day programming which could have been spent exercising but weren’t

Friday 2nd: Anna moved in! – We went and saw Four Brothers in the evening which I enjoyed.

Sunday 3rd: Went to the beach with Anna, Mark and Nick. I got turned into a mermaid and my back got sunburnt everywhere I couldn’t reach – quite defined lines. Then came home and played Buzz with them, followed by some chess with Mark (score 3-3).

Thought I should include some photos because I haven’t for ages. – There is no bigger version because they were taken on a cellphone.

Me at the beach Me at the beach
Me as a mermaid at the beach.

Going to see The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe tomorrow at midnight. That is a very long title for a movie.

Probably more happened too, but in the interests of all the other emails and MSN conversations I’m busy with at the moment I’ll leave it at that. 🙂

Buzz

Well, thought I’d update while I was waiting for a licence for one of the applications at work.

I think I’m going to cut down on the detail in my weekend updates a little (maybe – who know’s what will happen).

I went for a couple of bike rides on Friday evening and Saturday morning. On Saturday I bought Buzz, which is a quiz game with buzzers for the playstation. Despite planning not to buy anymore games till I’ve finished a bunch of the ones I have, I am still a sucker for any games which have associated gadgets or which can be played by large groups of people. We spent a couple of hours on that on Saturday afternoon.

Then after tea, Mark and Andy came around and we played some Buzz and watched Batman Begins. Buzz lasted for quite a few hours…

I then got up in time on Sunday to watch the rugby (taped) at Lynton’s at 8am, as well as bits of the league. Then church. After that I helped Merodie shift out of her room. In the evening we had a flat night to farewell Merodie, starting with dinner at Cafe Valentinos, followed by some Singstar and Buzz action. I think it was my best ever singstar performance, breaking 7000 four times! With ranks of “Lead Singer” and “Rising Star” Not quite sure what was different from other times – maybe it’s actually improving my singing… 😛

Well, that was kind of shorter… Note the lack of an in-depth description of the food I had. – I had a seafood platter/soup type thing with a foreign name :). It was kind of like a seafood platter in a tomatoey broth/soup. Anyway, the licence I was waiting for has come available, time to go.

Newsflash!

I just stood on the scales and the first digit was an 8! – much better than the first 2 digits being 10… So, 9.8kg to go. In other news, I went hunting and found the bag of clothes that I was going to take to the clothing bin at the start of this year because they didn’t fit, and found some shorts in there that fit perfectly. Also I have a new flatmate! Although reading that description, I’m a little scared… “Most cunning and devious” Uh oh…
