180

Well, I had a pretty great weekend. We had an extra bonus day as well due to Canterbury show day on Friday which was pretty sweet.

But anyway, first things first! On Thursday night I went to see Serenity with a bunch of guys from work and it really was all that. I just realised that I missed a whole weekend from my blog… Here’s the update on that:
Went to end of year leadership team meeting for Navs, where we had the best lunch ever! There were smoked chicken spring rolls, asparagus rolls, frozen grapes, chocolate strawberries, lemon muffins, sushi, mini pizzas and more. It was almost a week and a half ago now, but the delicious flavours come back to me even now! Then I went round to Gordon’s place where a LAN was happening (weather was awesome, as per normal) and played on Blair’s laptop for a while, while he went and got lunch. I then went for a power bike ride to Sumner (My heart rate monitor tells me my average heart rate for the hour and a half it took me to get there and back was 162BPM) and then the Navs end of year party, where we had some fireworks and lots of conversation and some food, which I mostly resisted. When I got home (reasonably late), I watched the first episode of Firefly, the DVDs of which I borrowed off Mark at the LAN. On Sunday I watched the other 13… I did manage to pick up my bike from the party location and go to a BBQ in between, but other than that, it was pretty much solid all day. Firefly is the series that the movie Serenity is based on, so I felt I should watch it before we went to see it on Thursday and became completely hooked very quickly.

Anyway, back to weekend just been… Just before I went to see Serenity, I got a txt from Craig asking if I wanted to go waterskiing, and I did, which I duly did on Friday and Saturday at lake Aviemore with Craig, Adam and Andy. We camped out in style and had our fair share of adventure, which I should possibly not elaborate on to protect the innocent… Suffice to say that We paddled the boat for a while for no apparent reason on Friday afternoon, and raced back to where we were camped through hail, thunder and lightning on Saturday afternoon (amongst other things). On the actual waterskiing front, I think I improved somewhat and looked less gammy on two skis (I did get up first time which is always good). Also I managed to get up on the wakeboard and accidentally did a 180 because I didn’t know how to turn… Then I fell off. Craig also did his first 180 on the wakeboard, and like me, fell off. Then I kept trying to do 180s every time I got up, somewhat/completely unsuccesfully, when I should have probably been concentrating on turning properly and actually learning how to stay up on the thing.

I got home to find that Mike had acquired a couple of American girls, which I met on Sunday morning. We went to the beach (North Beach). I met the others there on my bike. Mike managed to convince one of them to eat some seaweed and we introduced them to the concept of a compulsory swim… Lots of fun. It poured down with rain after we got back, so we got some DVDs and made pizzas. Watched Flight of the Phoenix and The Castle. The castle was intended as a bit of a social experiment as the girls really like Napoleon Dynamite and it’s kind of an Australian equivalent. They liked it, which was impressive, given it’s apparent track record with clueless international audiences.

I went for another random bike ride last night and tonight, we had Captain Ben’s followed by a bit of ultimate frisbee and then a lot of singstar, of which I now have the 80s iteration.

Then I decided it was really about time I updated my blog with a real post… Here it is, enjoy?

Edit: If you go see Serenity, it is not essential to see the Firefly series first, but it gives the characters a whole lot more history when you see the movie and makes it that much cooler. Incidentally, the movie is currently sitting at #196 on the top 250 movies of all time on IMDB…
