I finally found a fix for the problem that appeared when I installed upgraded my laptop’s operating system to Ubuntu Edgy Eft when it was released at the end of October.
This problem added a 3 minute wait to the booting process of my laptop. Multiply that by about 100 boots (estimating conservatively) and you get 5 hours. I found the answer here.
Boot time is so much better now. For the geeky amongst you, these gantt charts may be mildly interesting… They were generated by a program called bootchart.

Now I can finally enjoy the great boot times that Edgy promised me. Other than that one problem I have nothing to complain about and would recommend Ubuntu to anybody.
